Attention Eagle Candidates and Troop, Team and Crew Leaders:

The new 2010 Advancement and Recognition Policies and Procedures guide (item #33088) has made it clear that the Eagle candidate reference letters, under no circumstances, can be given to the new Eagle after their board of review. I have updated the reference letter to remove the option of the reference writer permitting the Eagle to have their letter.

The new requirement states that the reference letters for an Eagle candidate must be retained by the council office after the conclusion of the Eagle board of review. Under step 6 of the 12 Steps From Life To Eagle, still mandates that the Eagle candidate should not be involved in the transmitting of any correspondence between the references listed and the Youth Development Committee (previously the Advancment Committee). You may find the 12 Steps From Life To Eagle at the end of the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook and on page 31 of the new 2010 Advancement and Recognition Policies and Procedures.
